Illustrator: Paul Hess studied graphic deisgn before going on to work as an art director in various design studios. Paul began illustrating full-time in 1991 and has illustrated several children's books. Richard Monte is a children's book reviewer who has contributed articles on Poland to BBC History Magazine and History Today. He is married to a Polish wife. This is his first book for Frances Lincoln. Whereabouts: St Albans, Hertfordshire Paul Hess's books include Josephine Poole's Jack and the Beanstalk, Alan MacDonald's Pig in a Wig and Malachy Doyle's The Great Castle of Marshmangle (Andersen Press). He collaborated with Eric Maddern on the critically-acclaimed The King with Horse's Ears, Death in a Nut and Cow on the Roof, published in 2006.
