First published in 1996, a picture book based on a true story which follows a young boy's attempts to save a baby pilot whale which has beached near his village and concentrates on how their relationship develops as he and local villagers return the whale to the sea. Illustrated by Susan Field.

LIZ FILLEUL is a journalist who was editor of Woman Alive magazine before moving to Melbourne, Australia. She now works for the travel publisher Lonely Planet. SUSAN FIELD has illustrated a number of children's books but has recently concentrated on being a home-maker. She and her family live in Norfolk. Elisabeth Beresford is a well-known and established children's author who has been awarded the MBE for her services to children's literature, but is best-known for the characters she created 25 years ago - the Wombles
